Incumbent Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera won the nomination for the 80th Assembly District by defeating her opponent Joseph Thompson.
In her victory speech, Rivera credited her family with teaching her about politics and continuing to be an inspiration to her. Rivera's father is Jose Rivera, who is also a member of the Assembly, and her brother Joel Rivera is the majority leader of the City Council.
Rivera said there is still a lot of work to do and she is confident she will win in November. She said she is grateful to her constituents in the 80th District. Rivera added that she intends to continue to work on getting Bronx residents the services they need.
