A retired priest whose Shelter Island home was targeted in a home invasion last month has died.
Officials say 87-year-old Rev. Canon Paul Wancura, a retired Episcopal priest, passed away from his injuries sustained during the burglary.
As News 12 has reported, Wancura was discovered tied up and barely conscious during a welfare check in his Shelter Island home back in March, church officials said. Officials said he had possibly been left there for days.
Wancura had been airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital Medical Center for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
No arrests have been made in the case. Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
