A prominent Nassau restaurateur accused of bribery is free on $5 million bail.
A judge granted the release of Harenda Singh Wednesday.
As News 12 has reported, Singh allegedly bribed an Oyster Bay employee in exchange for $20 million in town-guaranteed loans.
His attorney requested bail, citing serious family circumstances and declining health.
"It is to the point where it has deteriorated to the extent that we don't want his remands on a non-violent financial crime pending trial to mean a death sentence for him," Anthony La Pinta says.
Under the terms of his release, Singh must wear a monitoring device and he is not allowed to leave his house.
His trial is scheduled for Jan. 9.
