News 12 Long Island has learned that Common Core is receiving an overhaul.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently appointed a task force that has released its final recommendations on the academic standards.
Among the panel's recommendations is fewer testing days and less questions.
In addition, a more transparent process where educators can periodically review the standards has been suggested.
Earlier this year, tens of thousands of Long Island students opted out of the tests.
The group behind the opt-out movement is now looking forward to the big changes.
The task force also recommends halting teacher evaluations based on the tests. That moratorium would last until the 2018-2019 school year.
The state will now have that authority, because President Obama signed a new education law that transfers power back to the states.
