Renewed push underway to lower legal drunk driving limit to .05 in New York state

The measure has failed in the past, but will be reintroduced when the legislative session in Albany begins in January.

There is a renewed push to lower the state’s DWI limit from .08 to .05.

Advocates for the change point to data in Utah, which shows a more than 19% decrease in drunk driving deaths. Utah is the only state where the legal drunk driving limit is set at .05.

The measure has failed in the past, but will be reintroduced when the legislative session in Albany begins in January.
