Residents were shaken after the rear wall of a North Bay Shore apartment complex collapsed early Tuesday morning.
About half of the 70 people living in the Sagtikos Garden Apartments will not be allowed back home for some time after the bricks simply buckled. Responders immediately shut off the electricity, gas, heat and water to the multi-building complex to avoid further complications. The 35 residents living in the other building will be allowed to return, while the landlord will put up the rest at other properties he owns in the area.
Building inspectors are not sure what caused the collapse, and it is unclear whether violations will be cited. Despite the scare, residents did not report any injuries.
