A quarter-mile pathway leading into Randall's Island is being built on 132nd Street in Port Morris.
The Randall's Island Connector will allow residents to walk to the waterfront recreational facilities on the island. The connector is part of the city and state's plans to make the waterfront areas and green spaces more accessible to residents.
The idea was announced by Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2006, and construction started late last year. The project is now closer than ever to being a reality for many residents.
The city says the pathway construction will be complete by early 2015 and open to the public shortly after.
