A Christmas tradition continued at the Fire Island Lighthouse on Saturday.
Dozens of kids and families looked on as Santa himself magically appeared at the top of the lighthouse, located just east of Robert Moses State Park.
The rainy weather kept Santa's plane grounded. But that didn't stop him from spreading Christmas cheer or sitting with the children who came out to see him.
The original Flying Santa was a pilot back in 1929 who found his way home through a snowstorm using a number of lighthouses.
He was so grateful for their guidance that officials say he went back and brought gifts to the lighthouse keepers.
Saturday marked the 17th year of the Flying Santa event on Long Island.
