Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand stood among 9/11 first responders, survivors and Congressional lawmakers Tuesday to announce legislation to renew the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.
The act, which covers medical expenses for Sept. 11 responders and those that worked at Ground Zero, is set to expire in October 2016 if Congress decides not to renew the coverage.
Supporters from the FealGood Foundation are fighting to see the funding extended for another two decades.
"We are talking about human life. And you do not put political ideologies before human life. It's that simple," said John Feal.
The Zadroga Health and Compensation Act affects people living in all 50 states.
Advocates are hoping lawmakers approve the bill before the 14th anniversary of the Sept. 11th attacks.
