Coram man indicted for murder in fatal stabbing of homeless person

A Coram resident accusing of fatally stabbing a homeless man in Medford has been indicted for murder, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors say 20-year-old Joseph Norton began to chase Timothy Stark through the Route 112 intersection and repeatedly attempted to stab him during an altercation on July 20.
He then allegedly pushed Stark’s head toward the ground and stabbed his back, leaving him collapsed in the roadway. Stark was later taken to NYU Langone-Suffolk Hospital and pronounced dead.
Yaphank police arrested Norton shortly after he fled the scene in his vehicle. Officers say they recovered a knife that appeared to have blood on it underneath his driver’s seat.
Prosecutors say the attack was captured on surveillance video, dash cameras and cellphone footage.
Norton was arraigned on July 20 and is due back in court on Sept. 3. He faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
A memorial for Stark is set to be held Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Medford.
