Public outcry lands Vikings’ Peterson on exempt list after allegations of child abuse

The Minnesota Vikings are ordering star running back Adrian Peterson to stay away from the team.
The move comes a day after saying Peterson would be back. He is now on temporary leave. It is not a suspension, but it places Peterson on the "exempt list."
Peterson is accused of beating and bruising two separate sons.
Anthony Zenkus, who helps run The Safe Center for victims of family violence, says 7,000 families were investigated by child protective services after accusations of domestic abuse last year. He says it was disappointing that it took a public outcry and the loss of sponsorships for the team to act against Peterson.
Don McPherson, a former NFL quarterback from Huntington, counsels teams about how to avoid violence in the home.
"We want decent people to cheer for. We want examples," McPherson told News 12.
The Safe Center operates a 24-hour hotline for victims of domestic violence. Its number is 516-542-0404.
