A Selden restaurant owner says he is the latest victim of scammers pretending to be PSEG representatives.
Choopan Grill owner Rauf Shorif says the scammers called and threatened to turn off his lights during the dinner rush unless he paid them what they wanted.
Shorif says he was instructed to go to a 7-Eleven immediately and buy a Vanilla prepaid card. Shorif says he lost about $1,000 and refused to pay more when the scammers called back.
The utility says it would never ask for a cash payment over the phone or threaten to turn a customer's power off.
The New York State Attorney General's Office is investigating the phone scam.
