PSEG Long Island is raising the power supply charge 24 percent for October bills.
The rate was just under $6 for each kilowatt per hour in September. It will go up to $7.36 this month.
The power supply charge reflects what it costs PSEG to purchase fuel.
Spokeswoman Elizabeth Flagler says PSEG has no control over the price of the fuel used at Long Island generating stations.
"The power supply charge is based on market supply fuel prices, weather and projected usage among other factors," said Flagler. "From month to month, it does vary up and down."
PSEG officials say the price dipped this summer because the weather was unseasonably cool.
The power delivery portion of the PSEG bill will remain frozen until 2016.
