Long Islanders today re-enacted a freedom ride to highlight an alleged lack of affordable housing in Garden City.

Hempstead residents and members of New York Communities for Change rode a bus from Hempstead through Garden City, ending up at Village Hall.

Protest organizers claim officials changed zoning laws to make property for affordable housing difficult to purchase.

A group of Long Islanders filed a federal discriminatory lawsuit eight years ago against Garden City, claiming it has violated fair housing rights. The case finally heads to court next week.
