Prosecutors say a former middle school principal lied about his criminal past to get the job.

Former Freeport Middle School principal John O'Mard, 45, was charged back in March with having non-consensual sex with a 16-year-old boy he met online.

Today, he faced new charges in a Mineola courtroom. Prosecutors say he knowingly lied on paperwork that he submitted to the state in 2004 and 2006. In those documents, prosecutors say O'Mard claimed that he didn't have a criminal record, despite having spent time in prison in the 1990s.

O'Mard worked for the Freeport School District for 10 years, but he had been convicted of grand larceny in 1990 and petit larceny in 1987. He now faces charges of perjury, defrauding the government and offering a false instrument.
