Thousands of Long Islanders have been without power for nearly two days following Saturday night's severe storms.

As of Monday morning, more than 4,000 homes and businesses remained without electricity.

PSEG Long Island says crews have responded to nearly 400 downed trees and more than 320 fallen limbs since the storms moved through the region.

Most of the damage has been concentrated in Suffolk County, which was hit hardest by the Saturday night thunderstorms.

Crews worked overnight to restore service, and utility officials say significant progress has been made.

Speaking with News 12 on Monday, PSEG Long Island president and COO Scott Jennings said the utility hopes to have power restored to all remaining customers by Monday evening.

"We're addressing outages across the board, but those who lost power on the Fourth are our first priority," Jennings said. "Be patient with our crews, drive safely in this weather so we can get to damaged locations more efficiently, and be mindful of downed wires and report them immediately."

As of 9 a.m. Monday, PSEG reported that more than 91% of customers affected by the severe thunderstorms had their power restored.

As storms continue Monday, the utility says crews are ready to respond to any upcoming outages.
