The Suffolk County District Attorney?s office said Saturday the murder of Huntington bagel shop owner Ann Anderson was premeditated.
Anderson?s estranged husband was charged Friday with second-degree murder for the death of his wife. Mrs. Anderson was killed inside Super Bagel on Wall Street Friday. Robert Anderson, 66, has since pleaded not guilty.
Assistant District Attorney Denise Merrifield says Robert Anderson sought revenge on his wife because she was recently awarded ownership of their two bagel stores in their divorce.
?He knew her routine and he laid in wait. Waited for her to arrive at work, and shot and killed her,? said Merrifield.
The district attorney?s office believes Robert Anderson left the store after the shooting and broke the gun into two pieces. They say he then threw the pieces into separate storm drains. Prosecutors say both pieces of the gun were recovered, but won?t release where they were found. They also say they have a witness and a written confession.
Robert Anderson?s attorney, Anthony La Pinta, says he has neither seen a confession nor spoken to prosecutors about the details of the confession.
Police say Ann Anderson had an order of protection against her husband. He was allowed in the bagel store but not allowed to carry a gun as part of the order. Robert Anderson is being held without bail.
