More security concerns Friday as the Coast Guard gets set to release its safety report on the proposed liquid natural gas terminal for the Long Island Sound.
The terminal, proposed by Broadwater Energy, would be built midway between Wading River and the Connecticut shoreline. While the Coast Guard isn?t recommending a rejection or approval, its report sites some security concerns. One concern would be the cost of security to help prevent terrorist attacks, shipping accidents or environmental damage. Another concern is reportedly the possibility that a flammable vapor could spread 4.7 square miles.
Since its proposal, the project has drawn opposition from political leaders, residents and environmental groups. The Coast Guard will release its findings in Connecticut. The report will then be given to the federal agency that is deciding the project?s fate.
