The 25th annual Long Island Pride Parade and subsequent festival was held Saturday afternoon.

Long Islanders joined dozens of organizations, businesses and unions for the parade down Main Street from Park Avenue to Prime Avenue.

In addition to the typical music, food and fun, revelers were provided information and enjoyed the support of others.

David Kilmnick, of the LGBT Network, is one of the event's chief organizers. He says the LGBT community has come a long way over the past quarter-century, but with a landmark Supreme Court case concerning gay marriage on the horizon and pending legislation regarding equal rights for transgender individuals being considered, there is still more work to be done.

"Parades are not only a celebration, but they are also a call to action," Kilmnick said. "We have to keep that momentum going."

The parade was followed by PrideFest, a massive celebration in Heckscher Park.
