The Power to Feed food drive collected meals for Long Islanders at Stew Leonard’s in East Meadow today.

PSEG Long Island and the Island Harvest Food Bank partnered to launch the summer food drive as a way to combat the food insecurity caused by the pandemic.

Island Harvest President and CEO Randi Shubi Dresner says they are looking to collect spices, personal care items, protein-rich items and chunky soups.

Friday’s event was the second of a series of six special food drives across Long Island.

“We have some aggressive goals, but we know we are going to do it because we have such a greater partnership,” Shubi Dresner says. “And the community really cares.”

She says that summer is an important time to give because families are often dependent on the school lunch and breakfast programs. “A can or a case, everything will really make a difference,” Shubi Dresner says.

The next food drive will be Aug. 6 in Massapequa at the Stop and Shop on Hicksville Road.
