This year, one of the districts that could determine which party controls the House of Representatives is Suffolk’s First Congressional District. It spans much of the county – from parts of the Town of Huntington all the way to Montauk.
The district is currently represented by freshman Republican Nick LaLota who has been on the offensive, going after each of his potential general election opponents.
The two Democrats vying to unseat LaLota: John Avlon – a Sag Harbor resident, a former CNN anchor and commentator and the former editor of The Daily Beast.
And Nancy Goroff – a Stony Brook resident and retired chair of the Stony Brook University Chemistry Department. She ran as the 2020 Democratic candidate in NY-1.
