A new law that gives some terminally ill adults a medical option to end their lives is now officially in effect in New York State. The Medical Aid in Dying Act allows those with less than 6 months to live to request life-ending medication. Patients must be mentally capable of consenting and the terminal prognosis must be verified by two physicians.
