The Sachem Central School District said an unexpected electrical service outage on Wednesday affected several schools, causing multiple critical systems to fail. All district schools were closed so the facilities department could repair the problem.
The school told News 12 that all repairs have been completed and in-person learning will resume at all schools, including Sachem East, on Thursday.
The district released a statement saying, “A huge thank you to our district facilities department for working around the clock to address the issue and give us the ability to welcome our students back to in-person instruction."
The district spokesperson previously said Sachem East experienced electrical issues involving the exterior main circuit affecting electricity, phones and internet service. This issue affected several buildings due to their connection to this circuit.
The issue began Tuesday evening, was restored around 11 p.m., and then failed again at approximately 3:30 a.m., according to a district spokesperson.
The decision to close all schools was made after careful evaluation to ensure the safety and continuity of operations across the district, the spokesperson said. A spokesperson from PSEG said the issue was not related to PSEG Long Island equipment, but they were prepared to assist the district if needed.
