Federal and local authorities announced the takedown of an alleged drug distribution network in Long Beach after investigators seized more than 20 firearms, a cache of narcotics and more than $100,000 in cash.
The arrest followed a joint investigation involving the FBI, Long Beach Police Department and the Nassau County District Attorney's Office.
Officials said 34-year-old Charles Burns, a longtime Long Beach resident, was arrested Friday at his home, which is located near a school. Authorities allege Burns stored drugs, firearms, and cash inside the residence while his children lived there.
During a news conference, investigators displayed evidence recovered in the raid, including more than 20 guns and several illegal drugs, including heroin, fentanyl, ecstasy, and cocaine.
According to the FBI, the investigation began in March 2026 after Long Beach police contacted federal agents about a suspected narcotics distribution network. Authorities allege guns and drugs were being transported from Queens into Long Beach and other parts of Nassau County.
Burns has had previous encounters with law enforcement involving drugs and illegal firearms, according to authorities.
“Nobody has this amount of guns in their home unless they are selling them or using them for illegal acts,” Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said.
Burns faces 59 charges, including criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon. If convicted on the most serious charges, he could face up to 25 years in prison.
Investigators said they are continuing to examine whether any of the firearms were trafficked from out of state and whether they were used in violent crimes.
Court records indicate Burns pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. He is being held without bail.
