Possible showers early Friday, warm and windy weather ahead of the weekend

This weekend will be much cooler following a cold front moving in Friday night for the region.

Small craft advisory issued for the South Shore through Friday evening.
HEADLINES:
  • Islip hit a new record high of 80 degrees Thursday, making it the warmest Halloween on record. The old record was 73 degrees set back in 2004.
  • We have another chance for record warmth Friday on Long Island. There is a chance for some sprinkles or scattered showers during the morning commute.
  • Skies will clear Friday afternoon but gusty winds near 30-40 mph will continue.
  • Still dry into the weekend but at least the cooler weather returns.
Islip hit a new record high of 80 degrees Thursday, making it the warmest Halloween on record. The old record was 73 degrees set back in 2004. However, the warm weather won't stop there.
Overnight temperatures will be 20 degrees or more above normal for this time of year. It will be in the 60s and cloudy for Friday morning with some sprinkles or scattered showers during the morning commute. The umbrella may not be necessary though. As it stands, many of us may not even see measurable rainfall Friday. if we do it is likely to be less than an 0.01 of an inch. So, our drought concerns will continue.
This weekend will be much cooler following a cold front moving in Friday night for the region. Expect seasonable temperatures both at night and during the day with less wind. However, the sunny skies with a few clouds remain the forecast, so the rain we need desperately continues to be absent from our forecast.
FORECAST:
OVERNIGHT: Becoming mostly cloudy, very mild and breezy. Lows in the middle to low 60s.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy in the morning with a few showers or sprinkles before clearing out by noon. In the afternoon, sunny breezy and gusty at times with gusts from 30-40 mph. It will also be near-record warm once again. Highs in the upper 70s. Lows in the mid-40s. Record high is 77 degrees set back in 1982.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny and much cooler. Highs will be near 60 degrees. Lows near 40 degrees.
SUNDAY: Sunshine with a few clouds. Slightly cooler but still nice. Highs in the upper 50s. Lows in the mid- 40s.
