Port Jefferson Mayor Margot Garant says Port Jeff will definitely experience flooding like it has with many past storms. The problem with Henri is there's expected to be a combination of storm surge and high tide Sunday.
"If it is raining hard and we have a high tide, and there's nowhere for the rainwater to go because our storm water runoff goes into the harbor, so we're a bowl," says Garant. "The water will contain, and it will come up and it will fill up Main Street and it will recede when the tide goes back out."
Garant says residents should stay home during the worst of the storm because there is the potential for street flooding, downed trees and power outages.
