A new poll shows that the race for Nassau district attorney is a virtual dead heat.

About a month ago, Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray had a 6 point lead over Acting DA Madeline Singas. According to a Newsday/News 12/Siena College poll, Murray only leads Singas by 1 point, 46 to 45 percent in the race.

"I'm excited because every single poll I've been ahead and I still remain ahead," says Murray. "Obviously, the race has tightened, but every race does."

Singas told News 12 that she feels "very energized."

"I feel the campaign has a ton of momentum. We're like a moving train and nothing is stopping us," says Singas.

The campaign has seen its fair share of attack ads between Murray and Singas, who has been working to establish her name as a veteran prosecutor.

"Experience matters. We need a prosecutor, not a politician to be the district attorney," says Singas.

Murray says she has the right experience.

"The district attorney is all about leadership. I've run America's largest township for the last 13 years, exponentially larger than the district attorney's office."

Election Day is Nov. 3.
