A Mastic woman is accused of stealing a purse from a 76-year-old woman who had fallen to the ground at a laundromat.
Police say the suspect was arrested on Saturday for the incident that happened back on March 31. According to investigators, a 76-year-old Mastic woman was sitting on a stool at a laundromat on Montauk Highway, and she fell to the ground while attempting to stand up.
Police say 36-year-old Jennifer Stevenson helped the woman to her feet and escorted her to a waiting taxi cab. Inside the cab, the woman realized her purse was missing, and when she returned to the laundromat, she realized it had been stolen.
Detectives say Stevenson stole the purse, which contained cash and credit cards.
Stevenson, of Stuyvesant Avenue, is charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance after police say she was found with crack-cocaine.
