A Uniondale High School student is accused of slashing two students with a knife.
Police say a 17-year-old girl got into an argument with two other girls in a hallway. They say the argument escalated and the suspect started punching one girl.
Detectives say the suspect then took out a utility knife and lunged at one of the victims, cutting her finger.
Police say a second girl stepped in to help and the suspect slashed that victim's cheeks.
The teenager, who is from Hempstead, is now facing charges including assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
The school's superintendent says the student was able to bypass school security scans by putting the knife under her laptop in her backpack.
