Police say a 2-year-old boy died after falling from a fifth-floor window on Gerard Avenue in the Bronx.
It happened shortly before 4:30 a.m. Sunday in the Melrose area. Police say the boy, Nayvem Santos, was under his grandmother's care at the time.
The boy got out of his crib, pushed a chair to a window and crawled out as his grandmother slept in another room, according to police.
Police found him unconscious and unresponsive on the building's second-floor landing.
He was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he died from his severe injuries.
No criminality is suspected, police say.
