Multiple motorists needed assistance after suffering blown out tires on the Long Island Expressway in Suffolk County Tuesday night.

Suffolk police responded to the area after a passerby reported several disabled vehicles on the side of the highway.

The drivers had struck metal debris that was in the roadway, according to police.

The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. between Exits 61 and 62 in Holtsville.

Highway patrol closed the right lane and assisted people with changing tires and contacting tow trucks.

A motorist tells News 12 he wanted to give credit to the officers who helped out.

The state Department of Transportation was called to come remove the debris from the expressway.

The lane was back open again after about an hour.
