Police: Shirley man seriously injured in Melville LIE crash

Police say 40-year-old Joseph Egan was going east near Exit 50 when he hit another car that was also going east just after 3:30 a.m.

A Shirley man was seriously injured in a crash early Sunday morning on the Long Island Expressway in Melville.

Police say 40-year-old Joseph Egan was going east near Exit 50 when he hit another car that was also going east just after 3:30 a.m.

He then crashed into a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder.

Police say Egan was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the other car was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt.
