A series of shootings in Suffolk County has triggered some fears that a gang war may be erupting.

Police say it appears that two shootings on Monday in Coram were targeted, leaving three men injured.

On Wednesday night, there was a report of shots fired on Norfleet Lane, just a few blocks away from the shootings on Monday. Police say they are investigating if those incidents are related.

Monday’s shootings came just after another shooting inside the IHOP in Ronkonkoma. The scene clearly played out on surveillance footage obtained by News 12. In that case, Deontrae Green, 19, was arrested and charged with shooting Tyriek Corbin, 20.

Police say they believe it's the result of a gang dispute among members of the Bloods who police say have been active in Suffolk County for decades and currently have 500 active members in the area.

"They're involved in drug trafficking, gun trafficking, human trafficking, money crimes, fraud," says Suffolk Police Chief Gerard Gigante.

He says they don't have a specific motive yet, but says they are following a number of leads in the shootings.

"It's been targeted at opposing gang members, but there's always the possibility of a stray round,” says Gigante. “That's always the fear. Especially at the IHOP."

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone says the police department is fully on top of the incidents.
