Police are searching for the driver who fatally struck an 87-year-old woman and drove off.

They say Elaine Schwartz was walking across from Front Street in Greenport Monday morning when she was hit.

Investigators say the car then left the scene.

Schwartz was sent to the hospital, where she later died.
