Police search for suspect in arrow shooting
Police are searching for the person who shot a 52-year-old woman with an arrow near an assisted living complex in Riverdale over the weekend.
Investigators say Denise Delgado-Brown was hit in the stomach by a black arrow as she was dropping off her elderly friends at a nursing home after attending service at a Yonkers church.
Delgado-Brown says she was helping her friends out of her car, when she suddenly felt extreme pain and thought she was hit by a baseball bat.
"When I looked down, I see this arrow protruding out of my stomach," she says.
After Delgado-Brown realized what happened, she clutched the shaft of the arrow, which pierced her stomach 2 inches above her bellybutton. One of Delgado-Brown's friends called 911, and she was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.
Police officers who arrived at the scene of the incident scoured the nearby Henry Hudson and Seaton parks in search of the archer responsible for hitting Delgado-Brown. On Tuesday, investigators returned to the area and put up posters asking anyone with information about the incident to contact police.
"I just hope whoever did it will come forward and admit that they did it," Delgado-Brown says.
According to a spokesperson for the Department of Parks, only on-duty police officers and peace officers are allowed to bring or have in their possession slingshots or missile propelling devices in any city park. In the past, however, the agency has issued permits for archery competitions.
