Police: Roosevelt man facing assault, drug charges after resisting arrest

Detectives say they saw Fernando Ortiz, 29, riding his bike without proper safety equipment.

Police say a Roosevelt man has been arrested for resisting arrest for drug possession and sending an officer to the hospital.
News 12 has been told the incident happened early Sunday morning.
Detectives say they saw Fernando Ortiz, 29, riding his bike without proper safety equipment like lights, working brakes, reflectors and more.
Police say Ortiz got off the bike and tried to run away when he was stopped and tried to hide drugs from the officers.
According to police, when they caught Ortiz, he resisted arrest and became violent and combative.
One officer was hurt and sent to the hospital.
News 12 has been told officers found an envelope with a white rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine.
Ortiz is facing multiple charges.
