Nassau police were back at the Massapequa Preserve Thursday searching for anything related to gang activity that could connect the dots in the investigation of recent bodies found in the county. 

Police found human remains in the preserve earlier this year and again at three other locations in Nassau over the past two weeks. The latest discovery happened over the weekend in a wooded area near the Freeport-Merrick border.

Detective Lt. Richard LeBrun said that 16 recruits from the Nassau Police Academy scoured the area to search for evidence of gang activity – whether it be a meeting place or gang tags. 

"We're looking for anything that can help connect the dots. Where they are recruiting, where they are hanging out," said LeBrun. 

He says the search is providing good training for the academy recruits, as well as an important showing of a police presence in the area.
