Multiple gunshots hit a home in Massapequa Park early this morning, police say.
The bullets hit a house on Glengariff Road around 1:30 a.m.
No one was injured in the shooting, but police say the shots narrowly missed people who were sleeping inside.
At this point, police do not believe the house was targeted.
Detectives believe the shots were fired from a car.
The couple who lives at the home did not want to appear on camera, but tell News 12 they were sleeping on the main level at the time shots rang out and they believe a man actually ran into their backyard. They think the bullets were intended for that man, but police would not confirm that.
Neighbors say the incident makes them feel unsafe because they have no idea who fired the shots or why.
"It scared the heck out of all of us," said Jenna Potucek.
Police say they are reviewing surveillance video from the area.
Massapequa Park Village Mayor Jeff Pravor says he's spoken with Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, who had promised to step up patrols.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the 7th Squad or the Nassau Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-744-TIPS.
