A mom faces accusations that she used drugs and crashed her car into a pole along the busy Middle Country Road in Middle Island Wednesday -- all that with her two children as passengers.

The impact nearly split the utility pole in half. Suffolk police did not immediately identify the driver, but they say she and the two children were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

"I think the woman should be taken off the streets and to the hospital to get herself some help," says Frannie Marks, who lives near the scene of the accident. "Don't get in the car when you're drinking or take drugs. And don't take your children."
