Police say they have arrested the mother of a newborn who was abandoned in Hempstead Sunday.
According to authorities, 25-year-old Xiomara Gamez has been charged with reckless endangerment, abandonment of a child and endangering the welfare of a child after she allegedly left her newborn baby in the lobby of a Hempstead apartment complex June 21.
Gamez is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
