Mother Nature cooperated this Labor Day weekend on Long Island, and businesses are thankful.
“If it rained this weekend, it would be a cruel, cruel, joke on all of us,” said Jennifer Steward of Patchogue.
The summer began on a soggy note, but this holiday weekend, the skies cleared, drawing out customers and lifting sales.
“This entire weekend has been absolutely awesome, it’s the weather we have been waiting for all year around,” said Michele LaMartina of Harbor Crab Co.
The waterfront restaurant, which has operated on the Patchogue River for 25 years, counts on its outdoor seating to thrive during the warmer months. Rainy days hurt business, but this stretch of sunshine has had the opposite effect.
“We are just grateful that the weather is not affecting us this weekend, it’s actually helping us,” LaMartina said.
And with summer winding down, the timing couldn’t be better.
“It’s not too hot, not too cold, not too windy, it’s just perfect,” LaMartina added.
She adds that weekends like this carry momentum into the fall, reminding customers they’re open year-round.
