Detectives are searching for a suspect who fatally shot a man Friday night in Long Beach.
Police say they were alerted to the shooting by a ShotSpotter activation at Sycamore Court off National Boulevard and West Fulton Street around 10:30 p.m.
Officers found a 33-year-old man with several gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
News 12 Long Island was told officers on patrol in the area tried to revive the victim, but he was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai South Nassau Long Beach Emergency Room a short time later.
Residents said the deadly shooting has them fearing for their safety, especially those with children.
"It's crazy. I mean, I live with kids," said Tatiana Ramos, who often lets her niece and nephew play outside. But with the suspect still on the loose, she is having second thoughts. "I was shocked last night…I don't know if the shooter is going around places...I'm not going to risk it."
Long Beach police and Nassau County Homicide Squad were trying to track down the suspect and a motive as of Saturday evening.
Police have not released the name of the victim. News 12 Long Island called Nassau Police for comment but did not hear back.
Anyone with any information about the case is asked to call police.
