A police-involved shooting has left a 49-year-old man in critical condition after police say he assaulted a woman in Grand Concourse.
Authorities say at around 2 p.m., the 49-year-old man assaulted a 63-year-old woman on East 153rd Street and Grand Concourse.
The woman approached five officers for help which prompted police to chase the suspect.
Police say the suspect then took out a firearm and pointed it at a passerby. After repeated instructions to drop the gun, the suspect put the weapon to his head and then turned it on the officers. Four of the five police officers fired at the suspect, striking him numerous times on his body.
The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition. That woman was also transported to treatment, but her condition is unknown at this time.
The identities of both the victim and the suspect have yet to be revealed.
