Police are asking for the public's help in tracking down the people responsible for an assault inside a Bellport gated community.
Sergi Lymar, 61, was heading to the basketball court inside the Atlantic Point apartment complex on Jan. 3 when he says about two dozen young men and women already on the court told him to leave. Lymar says he did not recognize the group and took out his cellphone to take pictures to show management.
Lymar says the group assaulted him and broke his jaw, which was wired shut for three weeks. The incident was captured on video.
When the 61-year-old told management about the incident the next day, he was told that no one in the video actually lives in the complex.
While the amenities inside the community have signs that say "for residents only," some residents of Atlantic Point told News 12 that security is not enforced. When News 12 arrived at the complex Tuesday, the gated community was open to whoever wanted to drive in.
News 12 attempted to speak to management, but they did not answer their door or return any phone calls.
Anyone with information about the assault at Atlantic Point is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
