Police have arrested a man in connection to a robbery that involved shots fired by a store owner in North Bellmore.

According to detectives, three men entered Newbridge Wine and Liquors on Newbridge Road and began to conceal assorted liquor bottles.

Detectives say they then exited the store and placed the bottles in car parked out front.

The store owner, a 69-year-old-man, approached the defendants outside the store and told them to stop, officials say. That is when one suspect fled on foot, while the remaining two suspects entered the vehicle.

Officials say the store owner attempted to prevent the remaining suspects from fleeing by reaching through the passenger side of the car to remove the keys from the ignition. That is when the driver, identified as Jamik Q. Cannon, of Hempstead, placed the car in reverse and caused the owner to be dragged.

Police say while being dragged, the owner pulled out his legally licensed handgun from his holster and fired the weapon, striking Cannon in the right shoulder.

Cannon and the passenger fled on foot northbound, but officials located Cannon at a hospital where he was placed under arrest. The investigation is continuing.
