Police have identified the three teens who were killed Friday when an SUV carrying 10 people flipped multiple times on the Meadowbrook Parkway.
State police say the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer was seen traveling southbound on the parkway at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic, before overturning and ejecting three passengers who weren't wearing seat belts.
Police say the deceased victims include 15-year-old Marlon Carbajal, a student at Uniondale High School; 16-year-old Herbert Maravilla; and 13-year-old David Sanchez -- who was the driver's younger brother.
The other seven occupants suffered injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
The driver has been identified as 15-year-old Cindy Sanchez, who is too young to have a learner's permit. Among the passengers was an 18-month-old child, who police say is the driver's son.
The SUV had been reported stolen the day before the crash. It belonged to William Carbajal – the father of Marlon Carbajal, who died in the crash.
“Someone took it from here, I don't know how they got the keys,” he told News 12.
William Carbajal says he was working in Freeport at the time of the crash and saw the emergency response firsthand. At the time, he didn’t know it was his own car that went off the road.
“I lost my kid. He's not here anymore,” said Carbajal.
State police say the crash remains under investigation, and criminal charges in the case are pending.
