Police say a second set of human remains was found Wednesday in a wooded area of Brentwood, and the remains found last week have been identified as a missing 19-year-old.
Human remains were found on the same block - near Emjay Boulevard and west of the Long Island Rail Road tracks - last week.
Those remains have been identified as Oscar Acosta, who went missing on May 2. His death has been ruled a homicide, according to Suffolk Police Commissioner Tim Sini.
Sini said during a news conference Wednesday evening that Acosta was a "victim of violence."
Acosta's body was found only a few miles from where two teenage girls were found brutally killed.
Suffolk County police spent hours digging in the area on Wednesday and are focusing their efforts in the wooded area behind a paper goods business.
Authorities are working to determine the cause of death and to identify the remains.
Police are trying to determine if the two cases are connected. They are also looking for any links between the human remains and the recent killings of the teenagers in Brentwood.
Detectives believe gang members are responsible for the girls' deaths. Suffolk Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in those killings. Anyone with information can call 1-800-220-TIPS.
Sini also said that a "violent gang member" in Brentwood is in federal custody. It was not immediately clear what the person was in custody for.
