One person was killed and another was injured in a crash Saturday that shut down eastbound lanes on the Long Island Expressway.
Police say the crash happened near Exit 53 in the Brentwood area just after 5 a.m.
According to investigators, a 28-year-old man identified as Sergio Vargas, of Queens, was heading east when he crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer. The rig turned onto its side.
Vargas was killed in the crash. His passenger, Sasha Adams, of Bellport, is in critical condition.
The tractor-trailer driver suffered minor injuries.
The LIE was closed for hours in the area as police investigated the crash.
