Officials say a house fire in Jericho left seven people, including three children, homeless this afternoon.

According to police, flames broke out in the attic of a home on Maytime Court around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The people inside were able to get out safely.

It took 100 firefighters from 11 departments an hour and a half to knock the fire down.

Investigators say the fire was accidental and started with an electrical fixture.

The house suffered damage and is now being evaluated by inspectors from the Town of Oyster Bay Building Department.

Police say the Red Cross is now helping the people who lived there.
