A Hempstead man is accused of assaulting two police officers Tuesday evening in Uniondale.

Detectives say David Schenck was walking suspiciously in a parking lot on Nassau Road, which has been a target of a lot of burglaries.

When officers tried to talk to him, police say Schenck became violent and then resisted arrest.

The officers were taken to the hospital for their injuries.

Police say they also found a loaded handgun on Schenck when they searched him.
